Teacher/Role Model/ Public Speaker-

Embarking upon the 20th year of Katha Black Entertainment, Katha Black is one of most influential education dance personalities in the country today! She is an internationally known choreographer, degreed teacher, and performer. In May 2000, Katha received the honor of “National PTA Teacher of the Year” from the National PTA Association- selected from thousands of submitted nominations. Other awards include: AAHPERD Dance Educator of the Year -runner up, Southern District AAHPERD Physical Educator of the Year, Texas Community Health Award Winner, and recognized by the Texas Department of Health in 1984 and 1990. She has appeared in Ron Howard’s first movie “Cotton Candy” and has mentored notable students including: Nicole Bilderback, “Clueless” and Hollywood actress; Brenda Brock “One Life to Live”, Hollywood actress’ Dana Brown Blair, Director of the World Famous Kilgore Rangerettes; Diane Bergdorf Thatcher, daughter-in-law of Margaret Thatcher; Biz Davis Haddock, managing partner of C&W band, LANTANA.

The Educator-

KATHA BLACK is a nationally recognized public school teacher, lecturer, and motivational speaker. Katha retired as the department chairman and physical education/dance teacher at Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, Texas. She was selected at the 1985 AAHPERD Physical Educator of the Year in Texas and was one of six finalists for NASPE Secondary Physical Educator of the Year. Other awards include being named 1990 Texas and Southern District AAHPERD Dance Educator of the Year. Katha has been a regular presenter at professional meetings, including AAHPERD conventions around the country. She currently is owner of Katha Black Entertainment providing high profile talent for conventions and special events.

Katha has dedicated her life to educating students of all ages. Considered a “visionary teacher” for the Richardson ISD schools, Katha Black developed a number of innovative programs for Richardson public schools that have received national recognition and has been duplicated nationwide. They are: Wildcat Wranglers -a C&W high school exhibition dance team -a fine art performance group to represent the district at state, national and international events plus training classes teaching dance skills to last a life-time; Wildcat Wellness- created a grass-roots wellness program for faculty and staff utilizing community resources.  Winner of the 1990 Texas Community Health Award for a public facility; Chance of a Life-Time- an after school enrichment program designed to honor elementary students at high school events partnering with Northlake Elementary.

The Katha Black Dancers have appeared in Country music videos, national conventions, sporting events, and international galas. Katha Black Dancers’ unique combination of talent, enthusiasm and outgoing personalities have earned her the distinction of being Texas’ Number One dance agency. Organizations around the world and across the country have repeatedly found that Katha Black Dancers attract crowds, entertain groups of all ages, and leave guests with wonderful memories.
